Quick Getaway to Sumilon Island

I will be sharing to you our quick getaway to Sumilon Island about a month ago. And if there's one thing that I've learned about that trip is that checking the low and high tide schedule is a must! Check out below so you'll know what I'm talking about.

Quick Getaway to Sumilon Island - Wandering Ella

This weekend getaway was with my family and relatives. We left to Oslob at 5AM and arrived at around 9AM since we had some stopovers in Cebu City to buy food for lunch. It was in Barangay Tan-awan where we rode a motorized banca going to Sumilon Island. We were quite nervous while waiting for our banca because the waves were really big and strong. It even took us quite a while boarding on the banca and when we did, we all wore the life jackets. Lol.

With the big and strong waves, it took around 30 minutes to arrive at Sumilon Island when normally it would just take around 15-20 minutes. Sumilon Island is privately-owned and has only one resort when you would like to stay overnight or simply enjoy island activities and the pool. Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort only allows non-resort guests like us to stay at the sandbar with a fee of Php 50 per person. Basically, our intention was really to just go to Sumilon Sandbar but unfortunately, the tide was high and the sandbar was deeply submerged.

Please excuse my excessive fats! This is so embarrassing but I decided to post it anyway. Haha!

Even though we didn't get to fully enjoy the sandbar, we still had a really good time. The water was so clear and the sand was so fine. We just stayed on our banca and had our lunch there. It was even a struggle to go from one place to another because we were swaying like drunk people because of the waves. While we were swimming, Zayn really enjoyed being carried away by the big waves. We stayed at the island for an hour or so and then we returned to Tan-awan, Oslob.

Just in case you're wondering, we rented the banca for Php 2,500 and it's already good for 20-25 people. There are a lot of bancas available going to Sumilon Island but make sure that you don't allow the locals to ask unreasonable prices. The standard rate is Php 2,500 for the big bancas so don't be fooled by others who ask more than that (we almost got into it as well, thanks to our driver who knew people there). Anyway, it was a fun experience for us and I will surely come back and that time, I would have already checked the tide schedule!
